A gathering to celebrate the life of Robert C. Dickey, 81, of Eldridge and Bettendorf, will be held at CASI on Saturday, January 6, 2018, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 pm. A private family gathering was held at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary in Davenport with inurnment to follow at a later date in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Dickey died at his residence on November 22, 2017, following a lengthy illness. Robert C. Dickey was born in October of 1936, in Davenport, IA, the son of Clement and Alma (Meier) Dickey. Following his graduation from Davenport (Central) High School in 1954 he enlisted in the United States Air Force becoming an electronics instructor for the B-47 and B-52 bombers at the Lowry AFB in Denver, CO. On June 19, 1966, he married Shirley D. Roll at the St. Elmo Methodist Church in St. Elmo, IL. Mr. Dickey received his B.A. degree in mathematics and his M.A. in counseling from the University of Northern Iowa. Bob taught mathematics at Davenport Central High School for 35 years retiring in 1997 and also was an evening, adjunct professor of mathematics at Blackhawk College in Moline, IL, for 30 years retiring in 1998. Bob used his love of art and calligraphy to do posters for Central High School, colleagues, and friends. In 1976, he designed the present day devil face for sports and related functions at Central. He loved quotes, collected, and often displayed, for others to enjoy. His donor pin for 11 gallons of blood speaks to his character of giving. Bob enjoyed people and continued to work for various business like Genesis Systems in Davenport and Boss Office in Eldridge. Shirley and Bob enjoyed 51 years of marriage living in Eldridge until a move to Bettendorf in 2014. He is survived by – his Wife: Shirley; a Daughter Amee (Wes) Harms; a Grand-daughter Hannah along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Daniel, and a sister Barbara. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
