Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 2, in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until time of service. He will be laid to rest in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made in his honor to Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 299 or Honor Flight of the Quad Cities. Richard was born March 3, 1947, to Roscoe and Grace (Burkert) Dunkin in Trenton, MO. He proudly served in the U.S. Army. On March 7, 1970, he was united in marriage to Carole Morris in Davenport, IA. He retired from Oscar Mayer/ Kraft Heinz after 30 years of service. Although, he continued to do odd jobs for family and friends.
Richard enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family. He was a volunteer for the Police Reserve for DeWitt, IA. He was also a founding board member of the DeWitt area Veterans Memorial. After mowing and working on cars, nothing tasted better than an ice cold bottle of Miller Lite beer.
Those missing him dearly are his wife of 53 years, Carole Dunkin; daughter, Dannielle (Matt) Meister, Davenport, IA; son, Scott (Tammy) Dunkin, Davenport, IA; grandchildren, Kory (Kayla) Meister, Kala (Luke) McCall, and Allison (Marcus) Hausman; great grandchildren, Eli Smith, Callie Smith, Kyah Hausman, and Jameson Meister, along with one on the way; brother, George Dunkin; and sister, Carol Philbrick.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Rolla; and sister, Sondra.
