A memorial service in his honor will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at 11am at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport, IA; visitation will begin at 9:30am. Memorials in Ray’s name may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or to Clarissa C Cook Hospice House.
Ray was born on January 22, 1925 to Louis and Gladys Johnson in Moline, Illinois. He graduated from Davenport High School. Following graduation, he joined the United States Navy. Ray was united in marriage to Elaine Krukow on August 31, 1947; she preceded him in death on July 14, 1983. He later married Verna Barkman on September 25, 1999. Ray was a Service Rep with TMI for 20 years before his retirement. Following retirement, Ray could often be found playing golf with his many friends. Ray was an active member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, the American Legion in Walcott and was the oldest member of the Local 25 Plumbers & Pipe Fitter Union. His humble and optimistic nature, wonderful sense of humor and his ability to complete many tasks in a precise and punctual manner were qualities that made him special to all who knew him.
Ray is survived by his wife, Verna; his daughters Michele Neverman, Christine (Larry) Beebe and Julie (Joe) Needham; nine grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elaine, daughter, Stephanie, his parents and a sister Marion.
