A celebration of life will be held Sunday, May 1, from 2:00-5:00 pm at the Columbus Club, 1111 W. 35th Street Davenport, IA. On Monday, May 2, at 9:30 am, procession will leave from the Runge Mortuary to National Cemetery for military honors and he will be laid to rest. Phil was born January 15, 1948 to John and Mary (McElroy) Martin in Davenport, IA. On December 4, 1971 he married Ellen Johnston and they recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
From 1966 to 1970, Phil served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Navy. He served as Ship’s Company with Attack Squadron ninety-three on the USS Ranger CV-61 as an AQF2. He retired after 40 years with Patterson Dental Company.
Phil enjoyed reading, playing cards, spending time with his family, and he adored his grandson, Sam.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Ellen Martin; son, Eric Martin; grandson, Sam Martin; siblings: Vincent (Jan) Martin, Mathew (Karen) Martin, Christopher (Lisa Horneck) Martin, Amy (Bill) Kellenberger, Diana (Bob) Hester, Martha (Ed) Schlue, and Joseph (Shelly) Martin; along with sisters-in-law, Pamela “Sue” Martin and Sue Martin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings: Robert “Steve” Martin, Donald “Rick” Martin, Clifford Martin and Baby John.
