Peggy Louise Warren, 66, passed away in the comfort of her home and surrounded by the love of her family on Monday, April 14, 2025. Per her wishes, cremation rites have been given. Friends, family, loved ones, and acquaintances are invited to stop by Cunnick Collins Celebration Event Center on Saturday, May 17, 2025 from 1-3 pm to share memories and to celebrate a beautiful life lived. In Peggy’s memory, contributions may be made to either of the following organizations: Riverbend Food Pantry or The Clarissa Cook Hospice house. Her family is eternally grateful to the Mercy One Hospice staff and U of I Hospital staff for their compassionate care of Peggy in her final years.
On August 9, 1958, Peggy was born in Bangkok, Thailand to her missionary parents Darline (Anderson) and Jerry Hobbs. Throughout her childhood, she spent her formative years going back and forth between Thailand and the US. Her experiences in both countries paved the way for her adventurous spirit to flourish.
When she moved back to the States, Peggy met the love of her life, Dan Warren at Ridgecrest, a church camp in Colorado. The two wed on May 20, 1978 in Norman, Oklahoma. Their marital journey included two beloved children, Amber and Stephen, with many “informally adopted” children over the years as her home was a safe space for all. Later, they were blessed with two grandchildren Damien and Naomi.
Throughout Peggy’s career she achieved her Associate in Nursing, BSN, MSRN, and CCRN. If you could imagine all the attributes of a great nurse, you’d have Peggy. In 2012, she was recognized as one of Iowa’s Top 100 Nurses.
Peggy’s life outside of work was enriched by her travels, her love of gardening and nature, crafting in many ways such as cross stitch, crocheting and stamping. She loved playing piano and a variety of board games. She enjoyed spending time with her family and her many animals. She stubbornly loved life and squeezed every ounce of joy out of it.
Those left to carry Peggy’s torch include her husband of 46+ years, Dan Warren; children, Amber and (Steven) Briggs, Stephen and (Brenda) Warren; grandchildren, Damien and Naomi, her siblings: Jeanette Doty, Mark Hobbs, Judy Mayfield, Pats Wilson, and Carrie Engle.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents Rev Jerry Hobbs and Darline (Anderson) Hobbs and by her grandparents Dr. Roy Anderson and Margaret (DeFehr) Anderson.
