Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 5, from 4-7pm at the Runge Mortuary. He will be laid to rest in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made in his honor to Habitat for Humanity or Mississippi Valley Blood Center. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com.
Paul was born August 2, 1935 to Fred and Esther (Walters) Hofmann in St. George Township, Pottawatomie County, KS. He graduated from Meriden High School in 1953. After serving in the Army, he completed his education at Benjamin Franklin University, Washington, DC. On September 14, 1963, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Deardurff in Alexandria, VA. Paul was employed as a budget analyst for the Army and retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1993 after 27 years of service.
After retirement Paul worked part time for True Value Hardware in Eldridge and volunteered his time with several organizations including Habitat For Humanity and the Mississippi Valley Blood Center. He also served on the Eldridge Utility Board.
Paul and his wife Marilyn were active members of Christ United Methodist Church. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and playing 500 with church friends. He and his wife also traveled extensively and enjoyed performances by the Quad City Symphony and Playcrafters Barn Theater.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son, David (Tami Swenson) Hofmann of Des Moines, IA, many friends, his Christ Church family, and his caregivers at Crest Health Center.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 52 years, Marilyn Hofmann; and brothers Dean, Edward, and Dale.
