Miriam L. Witt, 90, of Davenport, died Friday, March 19, 2010 at Ridgecrest in Davenport. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Davenport. Visitation will be Tuesday at the church from noon until 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church.
Miriam Louise was born in her mother’s bedroom on May 10, 1919 in Custar, OH, the fifth of seven children born to William and Ida (Wismar) Leiendecker. Miriam married Robert Henry Witt on June 29, 1947 in Davenport; he preceded her in death on December 17, 1993. Miriam earned her teaching degree from Bowling Green State University and taught school in both Rock Island and Davenport for over fifteen years, retiring in 1977.
She enjoyed sewing, music and gardening and was an avid reader. She was active in her church, especially in later years with the Bag Ladies quilting group, and she appreciated time spent with her family and friends. She enjoyed nature and being out of doors, and was a past member of the Black Hawk Hiking Club. She had a great sense of adventure and was a firm believer in Having Fun!
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters: Melissa (Barney) Hankner, Maquoketa, IA, Barb (Tim) Delf, Blue Grass, two wonderful grandchildren: Molly (Mike) Heiar and Dan Hankner and his fiance, Megan Matysse and a brother, David (Jean) Leiendecker, Van Wert, OH. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Paul, Robert, Frederick Nicholas, and sisters, Eva Keeran and Mary Wesender.
