Mary Kathryn Kelting

Our dear mother, Mary Kathryn Kelting, aka Kathy, passed away at the age of 73 on Thursday, September 1, 2022. She was a loving mother, a devoted wife, a wonderful daughter, caring sister, and friend, anyone could ask for. Cremation has been done and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Kathy was born to Alfred and Martha (Flatman) Allen on February 15, 1949 in Davenport, IA. She met her husband, Kurtis Kelting, at Bishops where they were both employed in 1966. They got married 2 years later on September 21, 1968 in Aledo, IL, and went on to have 3 kids, Rob, Jason “Jaybird”, and Kara “Karbear”.

Kathy started her career in the medical field as an x-ray tech, and went back to school and obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Science at the University of Iowa. She worked as a Dental Hygenist for 30 years, and spent 20 of those years with Dr. Alpen. She retired for a day as my dad always said, and started working from home as a medical transcriber where she officially retired from in December 2020.

In Kathy’s earlier years she enjoyed painting her ceramics, scrapbooking with her daughter, watching her kids swim in the backyard, and then later years her grandkids. She loved watching movies and she would always watch ‘Guardian of the Galaxy’ and loved Groot.

Survivors include her son, Jason Kelting, daughter, Kara (James) Jensen, and son Rob Kelting all of Davenport, IA; 7 grandchildren including Dayton (Grace) Kelting and Paige (Alex Hessle) Jansen; a great grandchild, Zander; and sisters, Betty (Dr. Gene) Mueller and Jayne (Larry) Ehrecke; along with nieces, nephews, and her faithful companion, “D O G”.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her beloved husband, Kurt.
