Mary Anne Ceurvorst Honaker, 76, of Coal Valley passed away on October 2, 2022 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House. Per her wishes, no visitation will be held. A mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 10, 2022 at Our Lady of Victory. Private burial will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Memorials may be made to New Beginnings Pet Rescue. Mary Anne as born on October 9, 1945 in Davenport, Iowa, one of twin daughters to Wayne and Ferne Ceurvorst. She married Manuel Honaker on September 5, 1987 in Moline, Illinois. She graduated from the Villa de Chantal in Rock Island, Illinois. She completed her Bachelor of Arts degree at Marycrest College, Davenport, Iowa and her Master of Arts degree at St. Xavier University in Chicago, Illinois. Mary Anne was a life-long learner, dedicated professional and a wonderful teacher. She loved teaching and shared a passion for learning with hundreds of students over the years. She felt every child was important and worked tirelessly searching for ways to help each one. Mary Anne taught in the Davenport Community Schools and East Moline District 37, retiring after 37 years of teaching. She had many hobbies, especially taking great joy in reading, quilting, calligraphy, painting with watercolors and playing the piano.
Mary Anne is survived by two brothers, Richard Ceurvorst, Bettendorf, Iowa, Ken (Patricia) Ceurvorst of Sun City West, Arizona; two stepdaughters, Candace (Wesley) Reynolds, Deatsville, Alabama, Betsy (Jon) Thompson of Moline, Illinois; one stepson, Randall Honaker of Bristol, Tennessee; four nieces and a nephew.
Mary Anne was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel, her parents, infant brother, Donald James and an infant twin-sister, Anne Marie.
