Margaret “Evelyn” Taylor, 91, returned to her Lord and Savior on Friday, August 18, 2017, after passing away at her home in Columbus, Kansas. Visitation will be at noon on Saturday, August 26 at McCausland Methodist Church, with services to follow at 1:00 PM.
Evelyn entered this world on January 23, 1926, in Saskatchewan, Canada, the third of nine children born to Robert and Irene (Smithburg) West. While living in San Francisco, California, she met William E. (Bill) Taylor, who was stationed there during World War II. They married in 1945.
After the war, they returned to Bill’s family farm in Rienzi, Mississippi, and soon had three children of their own. Bill began a long-term career at Alcoa Aluminum, and the family moved to McCausland, Iowa, in 1956 where Evelyn lived for the next 53 years.
In addition to her duties as a wife, mother and homemaker, Evelyn enjoyed tending her flowers, ceramics, crocheting, embroidering and “neighboring.” The Taylors were a family of strong faith and were always active in the McCausland Methodist Church, which was across the street from their home.
In 2009, Evelyn relocated to Columbus, Kansas to live near her daughter. She was an active member of Columbus Christian Center, where she continued the nearly lost art of hand-written letters with her card ministry and participated in the Dust Busters, a ladies group that cleaned the church every Thursday morning.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill, her brother Bill West, and her sisters Norma Lawler, Mildred Laue and Alice Robinson. She is survived by her children Jeanne Lewis (husband Jim), Ron (Sondy)Taylor, and Gary (Dorothy) Taylor; brothers Floyd West and Bob (Barb) West; sisters Hazel Moses and Berniece Town; fifteen grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
