

Manfred J. “Skip” Carstens, 82, of Davenport, died peacefully at home under hospice care on Sunday, January 15, 2012. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 20, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Fellowship Hall at Trinity Lutheran Church in Davenport. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church. Skip was born February 16, 1929 in Davenport, the son of Albert and Elsie (Ritcher) Carstens. He served in the US Navy. He was united in marriage to Joann Bell on December 9, 1950 in Davenport.
Skip worked for Shick Beverage Company for twenty-eight years and then went to work for the City of Davenport in their street department from 1978 until his retirement in 1992. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and watching t.v., but, his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Joann, Davenport, children: Don (Jodie) Carstens, Napa Valley, CA; Candace (Harry) Kuehl, San Diego, CA and Lu Ann (Wade) Steckel, Davenport; grandchildren: Adam Carstens, Sarah (Nate) Alcorn, Andrew Steckel, Tyler Kuehl and Ryan Steckel; great grandson, Austin Carstens; brother, Fredelle (Darlene) Carstens, Davenport; sisters: Adele Irwin, Moline, IL and Shirley Doolittle, Mich.
His parents, grandson, Aaron Carstens; brothers: Earl, Edwin and Ernie and a sister, Rita preceded him in death.
