Leona E. Johnson, 92, of Davenport, passed away Thursday, September 13, 2012 in Clinton, IA. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be two hours prior to the services at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church or a favorite charity. Leona was born February 5, 1920 in Davenport, IA, the daughter of Henry and Gertrude (Creighton) Picklum. She married Wesley H. Johnson on February 5, 1946. She graduated from Davenport High School and the former Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in Moline, IL and was a registered nurse. In earlier years she had worked at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo, IL and the former Victor Animatograph Corporation and Bronson Hospital, Kalamazoo, MI and during World War II she taught Red Cross Home nursing.
She was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church and had been a Sunday school teacher. She was a 50 year member of Davenport Chapter #178 Order of Eastern Star and past president of Mabel Locknane King’s Daughters and Sons and a member of AARP.
She enjoyed being with her son, daughter-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren and also liked to travel. Leona had a real passion for cooking and baking.
Survivors include: son, Allen (Darlene) Johnson, Thompson, IL; grandson, David (Angela) Johnson, Hampton, IL; granddaughter, Lisa (Brian) Swanson, Enoch, UT; and three great grandchildren, Alyssa Johnson, Michael Johnson and Kaitlyn Swanson.
Her husband, Wesley, and her parents preceded her in death.
