Lenora Harris, 86, of Davenport, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at Trinity Unity Point in Bettendorf. Visitation will be on Friday, August 19, 2022 from 3:30pm – 6:30pm at Progressive Baptist Church. Funeral service will be on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 11am with a short visitation starting at 10am at Progressive Baptist Church.
Lenora was born on January 13, 1936 to Oscar and Minnie L. Browner in Elberton, GA. She graduated from Davenport High School; she received her Associates Degree from Peoria Business College. On June 26, 1955 she married Frederick Harris. Lenora worked at the Rock Island Arsenal 6 years and the Social Security administration for 40 years; retiring in 2006.
Lenora was a charter member of Progressive Baptist Church, Davenport, IA, where she served on many committees and was the Youth Director. She was active with United Neighbors Inc., Davenport Civil Rights Commission, past Worthy Matron of Naomi Chapter #1 O.E.S. P. H. A., NAACP, and she worked as an Equal Employment Opportunity Counselor. She was also a volunteer in the Davenport School System reading program.
Her survivors include her children: Frederick (Teresa) Harris Jr., Belita Harris, Diana (Pastor Daryl) Porter; siblings: Elenora Browner Crichlow, Reather Bell Browner; 9 grandchildren; Frederick Harris III, Justin Harris, Trae Harris, Timothy Rummels, Traci (Larry)Liddell, Melissa Grimes, Angela (Walter) Lindsay, Larry Niles, 10 great- grandchildren, 4 great- great grandchildren and her Godchildren; John Robert and Vontrice Jones; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins and a special friend Geri Walker.
She is preceded in death by her husband; Frederick Harris, son Gregory Harris, siblings: Oscar Browner Jr., Dr. John Browner, Minnie Alma Sims and Arthurlene Johnson and sister-in-law Shirley Browner.
