Kim was born on November 26, 1952, in Mason City, Iowa, to Carl and Joy (Farrer) Swab. On September 22, 1973, he was united in marriage to Ruth Poppe in Davenport.
Most of Kim’s life involved anything on wheels. He worked in service stations, petroleum maintenance, transported luxury cars, and ended his career driving a dump truck. He was especially proud of his 1958 Ford Courier and 2008 Ford Mustang Bullitt. Kim and Ruth enjoyed attending car shows and cruises together.
Kim was a ham radio operator with the call sign N0RWS. He was a founding member of the Quad City Mustang Club.
Most of all, Kim cherished the time spent with family and friends. He would do anything for them.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife; children, Eric (Valerie Collins) Swab and Lisa (Tom) Kustes; granddaughters, Katelyn and Courtlyn Kustes; sisters, Carol (Jerry) Steffensmeir, Connie (Steve) Eddy, and Cathy Loughead; brothers-in-law, Mark (Sharyl) Poppe and David (Kat McElroy) Poppe; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and his cat, Abbie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth Swab; and his cat, Geri.
The family would like to thank the staff at University of Iowa Health Care for their exceptional and compassionate care.
