Kathryn G. Schaefer, 70, of Davenport, passed away Monday, December 9, 2013 at her home. In accordance with her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. There will be a Memorial Service held 11:30am Friday (12/13) at The Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be 10:00am until service time Friday at the mortuary. A private disbursement service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Quad City Botanical Center, the Scott County Humane Society, the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. Kathryn Louise Graf was born August 18, 1943 in East Chicago, IN, the daughter of Elmer and Inez (Healy) Graf. “Kathy” attended schools in Park Ridge, IL and graduated from Maine East High School. She then attended Valparaiso University.
She was united in marriage to Craig McKee in 1966. On September 7, 1991, she married Carol (C.H.) Schaefer in Davenport and acquired a loving family including three children. She enjoyed a wonderful relationship with her new extended family. She along with her husband enjoyed several years of extensive traveling.
She was employed for many years in the Chicago area by the A.C. Nielsen Co., Honeywell, Inc., and Rand-McNally Corp. She enjoyed long-lasting friendships with fellow employees which she treasured over the years.
Kathy enjoyed flowers in all forms and was known for her lovely gardens and extensive knowledge of flora and fauna. She also was a voracious reader and enjoyed the critique discussions with her reader friends. Among her many other interests was Mah Jongg and her fellow players. Beading and jewelry making was a sideline hobby for many years. All cats and shades of pink always caught her attention. She was a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society for over twenty years. She was a gentle, kind and caring person and will be deeply missed by many.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, C.H.; step-children: Lisa (Randall) Torrey, Sarah Wright (Steve Funk) and Richard (Robin) Schaefer; three step-grandchildren Eliott, Annie, & Grant; several brothers & sisters in law; many nieces and nephews; sister, Gail; and extended Schaefer, Graf and McKee families. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Gretchen.
