Julia “Julie” M. Burke, 90, of Davenport, Iowa, also formerly of Nebraska and Maryland, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at her home with her family by her side. A funeral service to honor her life will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at 11am at Word of Life in Rock Island, IL. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 14, 2023 from 5 – 6:30pm at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, IA. Memorials in Julie’s name may be made to Another Child Foundation or to the Word of Life.
Julie was born on June 15, 1932 to Eldon and Julia Boone in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She graduated from Madrid High School and earned her nursing degree from Iowa Methodist School of Nursing. Julie was united in marriage to William "Bill" Burke on November 8, 1952, he preceded her in death. To quote Julie “I have lived an exciting and fun filled life”. She was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. Julie earned her private pilot's license in 1969 and she loved to travel the world. She was a registered nurse for many years and was the bookkeeper for the pharmacy that she and Bill owned. In her free time, Julie loved to read, scrapbook, color, and do family genealogy. She loved her days out with her sisters. While raising their six children, Julie and Bill were also hosts to many foreign exchange students.
Those left to honor Julie’s memory are her children: Carol (Bob) McGowan, Bill (Rhonda) Burke, Ann (Doug) Cypher, and Lisa (Andy) Ploehn; seventeen beautiful grandchildren; sixteen treasured great-grandchildren; and her siblings: Merris McIntosh, Bill Boone, and Diane (Stewart) Walmsley. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, two children Joy Branch and David Burke, grandson Billy Ploehn, her parents, and three siblings: Carol Long, Butch Boone, and Danny Boone.
