Judith “Judy” Sumpter, 82, of Viola, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at Mercer Manor with her family by her side. There will be a funeral service to honor her memory on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 10am at Weerts Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday, March 28, 2025, from 5 – 7pm at Weerts Funeral Home. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park following the service. Memorials in Judy’s name may be made to her family.
Judy was born on May 12, 1942, in Davenport, Iowa to Clarence and Charity Hildebrant. She worked for many years at St. Ambrose University as a dietary aide. Judy was united in marriage to Freddie Sumpter on July 13, 1991; he preceded her in death. Judy loved to spend time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing cards with her sisters and was a part of the Mother’s Club.
Those left to honor her memory are her children: Terry (Jeanine) Hildebrant, Darrell (Betty) Ebberson, Greg (Theresa) Ebberson, and Maureen (Steve) Shadden; thirteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three brothers Harry Hildebrant, Eugene Hildebrant, and Keith Hildebrant; sister Peggy Herauf; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Freddie, son Patrick Ebberson, her parents Clarence and Charity, and eight siblings.
