Funeral services for John W. Cook, 84, of Bettendorf will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May17, 2017 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Bettendorf. The family will greet friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary in Davenport. A private inurnment will be at Pine Hill Cemetery at a later date. Mr. Cook passed away on Friday, May 12, 2017 at the Iowa Masonic Home, Bettendorf.John William Cook was born on January 16, 1933 in Maquoketa, IA, the son of Clarence and Viola (Snyder) Cook. Following his graduation from Delmar High School in 1950, he joined the United States Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. He married Arlene Gavin in Rock Island, IL and recently celebrated 56 years of marriage. John worked as a furnace tender for Alcoa until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of the Local Steel Workers Union, the Alcoa bowling league, and St. John Vianney Catholic Church. He enjoyed Glen Miller and the “Big Bands” and spending time outside, especially at his property at Leisure Lake near Maquoketa, IA. He also loved doing crossword puzzles and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Chicago Bears fan.He is survived by his Wife: Arlene Cook of the Iowa Masonic Home in Bettendorf; 3 Daughters: Tina (Brad) Krider of Westerville, OH, Tami (Steve) Stelk of Bettendorf, and Mikki Cook of Moline, IL; 2 Sons: John (Tracey) Cook of LeClaire, IA and Scot Cook of Atlanta, GA; 3 Step-Sons: Ed (Violet) Reiter of Davenport and Bill (Sabrina) Reiter and Loras (Donna) Reiter both of Bettendorf; 2 Sisters: Mary Ruth (Paul) Lasack, and Shirley Gorzney; along with numerous Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his 2 Sisters: Evelyn McKenzie, Donna Hawkins; and 3 Brothers: Paul Cook, Jim Cook, Larry Cook.Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.
