Jean Marie Mumm, 90 years young, of Long Grove, was called home peacefully on Tuesday, February 13, 2024. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at 10am at Weerts Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Monday, February 26, 2024 from 4 – 8pm at Weerts Funeral Home. Burial will be following the service at Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials in Jean’s name may be made to the American Cancer Association or to the McCausland Fire Department.
Jean was born on May 29, 1933 to Forest and Louise James in Davenport, Iowa. She graduated from Davenport High School in 1951 and was the chairman of the class reunions held every 5 years up until their 60th reunion. Jean was united in marriage to the love of her life, Eugene “Curly” Mumm on December 8, 1951. She worked at the telephone company her senior year of high school and then at Universal CIT as a credit investigator after marriage. Bowling was a big part of Jean’s life; she was the secretary and treasurer for the Davenport – Bettendorf Women’s Bowling Association for 22 years, director of Iowa Women’s Bowling Association, and a member of the Davenport Metro Bowling for 67 years. Jean was inducted into the hall of fame for the Davenport – Bettendorf Association as well as the Iowa Women’s Bowling Association. She was a registered Girl Scout for 42 years and was a leader at St. Mark’s Church Brownie Troup for 7 years. She was a member of the Northwest Turner Hall Auxiliary for 65 years and the secretary for 6 years. Jean was also a member of Plus 60, AARP, and the Davenport Moose Lodge. She also enjoyed gymnastics, boating, water skiing, and going cruising. Later in life, she enjoyed playing Bridge, traveling, lunches with her cousins, Tuesday bunch, and going to her grandchildren’s events.
She is survived by her daughters Vicki (John) Van Hauen and Cindi (Mel) Bates; grandchildren: John (Destiny) Van Hauen, Jr., Jeremy (Sharon) Van Hauen, Kati (D.J.) Johnson, Brook Bates, Buck Peters, and Barry (Elly) Bates; 11 great-grandchildren; adopted daughter Laurie (Dale) Conard; sister JoAnn Franzen; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene “Curly”, parents, sister and brother-in-law Joyce and Bernie Ketelsen and brother in law Norwood Franzen.
She will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of crossing her path.
