Janice was born on November 25, 1943, in Moberly, MO to Mary Alice and Murl Richardson, Sr. She graduated from Bettendorf High School in 1962. Janice worked in Nursing in the Minneapolis area for several years before relocating back to Iowa. For 27 years, Janice worked as an accounting technician for the Department of Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) at the Rock Island Arsenal, Rock Island, IL before retiring in 2008. She also cared for the elderly as a nurse’s aide at Good Samaritan Center in Davenport from 1992-1998.
Janice was deeply connected to her faith and enjoyed reading, writing and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed old western movies and crime dramas. Janice loved writing poetry and took journalism classes at the University of Iowa. She enjoyed listening to Gospel music, socializing with her friends and family and she adored her grandchildren. She always had a smile and a kind word for others and was loved by all. Those who knew Jan know all too well what a wicked sense of humor she possessed. Jan was an amazing cook--there is nothing but high praise for the meals she lovingly prepared--and she was known for her endlessly sweet demeanor, but it is her loving nature and welcoming arms that she will be remembered for above all else. Her hugs were warm--her embrace always felt like home.
Those left to honor her memory are her daughters, Angela Jackson of Bettendorf and Sharri Jackson of Davenport; her ten grandchildren: Janeé Jackson-Doering of Des Moines, Amber Arrington of Las Vegas, NV, Marcus Arrington of Honolulu, HI, Monique Arrington of New York, NY, Jordan Arrington of Colorado Springs, CO, Brandon Arrington of Madison, WI, Barbra Arrington of Las Vegas, NV, Angel Arrington of New York, NY, Justice Jackson of Davenport, and Serina Jackson of Davenport; her two great grandchildren: Phillip Justice and Jordan Arrington; and siblings W. Ray Richardson of Waterloo and Murl Richardson of Bettendorf.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Murl Sr. and Mary Alice Richardson, and beloved sister, Joyce Thomas.
