James M. Robinson

James M. Robinson, Jimmy, was born the second son of Lee and Erma (Maltas) Robinson. He was born and grew up on a farm four miles north of Grand Mound, Iowa. After he married in 1946, he worked several jobs including Eclipse Lumber in DeWitt and John Deere in East Moline. He then bought a school bus and drove for Welton School for three years, as suggested by his father. In the summer of 1950, he sold the bus and worked on another farm. He then moved to Davenport in 1951, and worked for Alcoa. In August of 1951, he left Alcoa and worked for the Davenport City Lines as a bus driver. In doing so, he doubled his wages but also doubled his working hours. But when we are young, we don’t care so much about how many hours we work as long as the money is there. After 15 years at the bus company, he quit and went to the Commercial Container division of Roederer Transfer & Storage, which was later bought by Watts Trucking, from which he retired.

In 1995 he married “Margie”. She had been widowed twice. He had known her since 1936. His sister Marge was her 3rd & 4th grade teacher. Margie is the mother of six Pitts children and Jim is the proud father of five: Jacki Nelson (Las Vegas), Sharon Larrison (Greg) and Marsha Miller (Bob) of Davenport, Steve Robinson (Linda) of Andalusia, and Reid Robinson of Rock Island. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Marge, brothers, Duane and Roland, and son-in-law, Dennis Nelson.
