James "Jim" Bennett, 84, passed away at home on January 9, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Jim was born on January 30, 1940, to Harrison Bennett and Frances (Ramer) and grew up in the Conesville, Iowa area.
Jim was a graduate of Bettendorf High School. Professionally, he began his career at Alcoa before pursuing his entrepreneurial spirit. Jim owned and operated The Floor Mart on Harrison Street and later, Carpets To Go.
Jim married the love of his life, Joanne (Gray) Bennett, on June 14, 1959. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised three children, creating countless cherished memories along the way.
Jim had a deep passion for the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He and his family shared many adventures, often taking camping trips in their motor home. Jim was a member of Davenport Valley Archers and served on the board of directors. He was an accomplished archer, winning several awards and medals. He enjoyed target, 3-D and bowhunting. In 2016, Jim set a new Iowa State Record and won State Target Champion in the Master Senior Male division. He looked forward to Tuesday and meeting up with the “old guys”. Known for his sharp wit and a never-ending supply of humorous sayings, Jim brought laughter and joy to those who knew him.
Cremation rites have been accorded and the family will hold a private celebration honoring his memory at a later date.
Survivors include Joanne Bennett; two children; Nancy Jo Reed and Bret James; grandchildren, Adam Reed, Kayla (Jeff) Wiese, Ryne (Rachel) Bennett, Hailey (Zach) Elias, Jacob (Lucas) Bennett; great-grandchildren, Cora, Devan, Travis, Kylar, Lawson, Mason, Madi, Rowan, Lila, Adler, Pierson, and Callan, and his sister, Norma Jean (Dick) McCormac.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and one beloved son, Jeff Bennett.
