Herbert was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 6, 1935. He is survived by his wonderful son, Michael, his lovely daughter-in-law, Wen, and his grand dog, Truman, a terrier, all of whom reside in Arlington, VA. Dr. LePore is also survived by sisters, Sarah Elpern and Adrienne LePore and their families.
Dr. LePore served honorably and proudly overseas in the Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict period. Subsequent to his military service, he went to college, then on to graduate school for his Master's Degree and Ph.D, the latter obtained from the Brigham Young University in 1973. Upon completion of his graduate work, Mr. LePore taught at the university and community college levels, along with serving for many years in the Department of Defense as a Command Historian, retiring from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1997. He received several awards for his teaching, research, writing and publishing of three books. Herbert was a transplanted Midwesterner, having lived in the Quad Cities for close to three decades, during which time he was privileged to have many wonderful friends, and blessed with a wonderful church family at the First United Presbyterian Church in Moline. As all of us, Herb was a flawed and fallible human being, but otherwise lovable and loving. Though blessed with numerous noteworthy achievements throughout his life, his greatest achievement was being blessed to be the father of his son, Michael, of whom he was extremely proud.
Goodbye and love and blessings to you all.
