

Henry C. Doofe, 91, passed away August 23, 2010, after a brief illness. Runge Mortuary and Crematory will conduct cremation. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Runges. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Davenport.
Henry was born to Henry G. and Ida (Johannsen) Doofe, October 18, 1918. He graduated from the Davenport School System and the American Institute of Commerce.
He and Marian Sturtz of Rock Island, Illinois, married in 1943. She passed away in March 1989. In 1992 he and Jo Seier were united in marriage. For more than 30 years Henry was employed by Ametek Inc. in various managerial positions, including factory manager at its East Moline Division and plant manager at the South Portland, Maine, plant. In 1973 he left Ametek to take a position with Eagle Signal, Davenport. In 1977 he joined the Planning Executives Institute, headquartered in Oxford, Ohio. There he served as Senior Vice President, responsible for the Institute planning publications as well as its magazine, “Managerial Planning.” He retired in 1984 and he and his wife, Marian, traveled extensively, particularly in Europe.
The Center for Active Seniors (CASI) found a loyal volunteer when, in 1990, he chaired the Finance and Planning Committee, as well as serving as Treasurer.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Seier-Doofe; Henry‘s children and their spouses, Ron and Chotima Doofe, Prairieville, La., Marcia and Tony Vola, Des Moines, Iowa, Diana and Ron Dalton, Bettendorf, Iowa, Nancy and Melton (Willie) Hester, Davenport, and Tom Doofe, St. Louis, Mo.; four grandchildren, Stephanie (Vola) Clifford, Arlington, Va., Matthew Vola, Des Moines, Melanie Hester, Davenport, and Charles Doofe, Prairieville, La.; Henry’s stepchildren, Jim Seier, Davenport, Maureen Seier, Dubuque, Jerry and Luann Seier, Davenport, Joe and Anne Seier, Davenport, Jeanne Esparza, Normal, Ill., Jeff and Joni Seier, Statesboro, Ga., Jane Seier, Davenport, and Julie Seier, Davenport; and 10 step-grandchildren. Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Henry G. and Ida Doofe, his sister, Loretta, and his first wife, Marian.
Memorial donations may be made in Henry’s honor to CASI.
