Harry Benjamin Bauer, 95, of Eldridge passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House. A private service with military honors will be at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences can be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com.
Harry was born on January 23, 1922 in Davenport, IA a son of Harry and Anna (Cernetisch) Bauer. He attended Davenport schools, graduating from Davenport High in 1940. He began his work in the printing industry shortly thereafter. On July 26, 1946 he married Phyllis Misfeldt, spending nearly 64 years together until her passing on June 10, 2010.
In January 1943 Harry was inducted into the United States Army and service three years attaining the rank of TSgt. Discharge in January 1946, he returned to Davenport and began his career at Wagner’s Printers. Recalled to active duty in September 1950 he served in Korea and was separated in July 1951. During his various services he was awarded various medals and ribbons including a Bronze Star. He again returned to Davenport and Wagner’s Printers where he worked until retirement at age 65 as a master press operator.
He was very proud of his longevity, outliving six brothers-in-law and six sisters-in-law.
He was always a sports fan of the Iowa teams, a golfer and bowler.
He is survived by various nephews and nieces and first cousin, Fred Cernetisch.
