George Helmuth Schaeffer

George H. Schaeffer, 83, of Walcott passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Rosewood, Moline, IL. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm Monday, November 6, 2017 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 6:00 pm Sunday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Walcott Cemetery, Walcott, IA. Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice or Walcott American Legion. George was born February 18, 1934 in Davenport, IA son of Helmuth and Mary (Rathlef) Schaeffer. He served in the Army in Germany after WWII. George was united in marriage to Janet Shenpolk, August 6, 1966 in Walcott, IA. He farmed on the family farm. He later was employed in public works with City of Davenport.

He was a member of Walcott American Legion. He enjoyed fishing and had a great appreciation for antique farm equipment and his German heritage.

Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Heidi (Robert) Tee, Lindenhurst, IL; son, Trent (Lisa) Schaeffer, Colona, IL; stepdaughter, Beth Shenpolk, Morning Sun, IA; grandchildren: Emma and Daniel Tee, Eric and Patrick Whipple; four great grandchildren; sisters: Joan (Ray) Kroeger, Davenport, and Janice (Dick) DaBillo, Davenport.

George was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Janet.
