Gene was born the son of Stanley and Inez (Podhaski) Morgan on January 13, 1946 in Davenport, IA. On September 24, 1966 he was united in marriage to Nancy Wulf in Bettendorf, IA. Gene served proudly in the U.S. Army from 1968-1971. He retired from Nichols Aluminum in 2010 after 38 years of service as a lab technician.
Gene loved music his entire life. He played the guitar, ukulele, and his favorite instrument was his 4 string tenor national steel guitar, which was his pride and joy. Gene and his wife, Nancy were founding members of the Mississippi Valley Blues Society, the Quad Cities Friends of Heritage Arts, and the River Prairie Minstrels. They also played in a duo called “Gene and Nancy Morgan”. Gene was very creative, always drawing on his iPad and creating designs of Tiki’s, and he also enjoyed making cigar box guitars.
Gene loved going to Key West where they rented a cottage on the canal and enjoyed Land Shark beer and key lime pie.
Those missing him dearly are his loving wife of 55 years, Nancy Morgan, along with numerous extended family and all of his “musical family”.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Beverly Sprout, Judy Sidwell, Sheryl Hokinson and Phyllis Herrick; and his brother, Richard Smith.
