Gary Michael Clark of Bettendorf, passed away on March 6, 2024, one week before his 87th birthday. As per his wishes, Gary has been cremated. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2024 from 1 – 4pm at Weerts Funeral Home in Davenport, IA. Contributions in Gary’s name may be sent to Quad City Music Guild.
Gary was born in Fort Dodge, IA, the son of Dr. Thomas Sterling Clark and Ione Hynds Clark. He spent his youth in Rolfe, IA, where his talent for music became apparent. He graduated with a major in music from Cornell College on June 6th, 1960, and married Sue Ann Salisbury that afternoon. He taught vocal music in Wellsburg and Clarion Iowa schools before moving to the Quad Cities. Here, he taught in several area schools, including Bettendorf, Rivermont, Moline, Riverdale, and Orion. Along with his 32 years as a teacher, Gary also managed Enzler’s Luggage and Gift store in NorthPark Mall for 12 years.
The greatest musical loves of Gary’s life were piano and musical theater. He directed or acted in over seventy shows in schools and area theater groups. His fondest theater memories are from Quad City Music Guild.
Those left to mourn him are his wife of 63 years, Sue; his daughter Polly (Chuck) Wood; his sons Gary Clark Jr. and John (Nicole) Adams Clark; seven grandchildren: Meredith and Andrew Wood, Stefan (Melissa) Clark, Kristen (Clinton) Huebbe, Zachary Clark, Emily Kahle, Kaitlyn Degner and Ciara Dowdy; and two great-grandchildren are Riley Huebbe and Owen Clark.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Tom.
