Funeral services will be held March 21, 2024 at noon at the Runge Mortuary and Crematory. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time. In lieu of flowers it was Emmett’s wish to have a bench placed in his honor at West Lake Park, one of his favorite fishing spots. Emmett was born June 5, 1932 in Davenport, IA to Emmett Holst Sr. and Mary Kathleen Larson. Emmett grew up in Scott & Clinton Counties.
In 1950, Emmett graduated from Welton High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in April 1951 and served in the Korean War on the U.S.S. Diamond Head as Quartermaster, 2nd Class, Signalman and Helmsman for Special Detail in the U.S., Canada, Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Liberia, Balearic Island and Gibraltar until being honorably discharge in March 1955.
Emmett married the mother of his six children Betty Carsten in 1956; married Beverly Cady in 1980.
Emmett worked at Star Forms, Bettendorf, IA and Oscar Mayer, Davenport, IA for 24 years retiring in 1994. In 1994 Emmett & Bev moved to “The Farm” in Clarence, IA – a dream fulfilled. In 2005 they moved to Davenport, IA to be closer to their children and family.
Emmett had many good times fishing and playing cards with his good friends Gary & Donnie along with his children and grandchildren. He loved his Cubies and Iowa Hawkeyes.
Emmett’s proudest achievement was serving in the Navy, he may not have remembered what he did yesterday but he remembered the men and what he did in the Navy. He cherished his Navy reunions and was a member of AE/AOE Sailors Association. He was very honored and proud to have his latest Great Grandson named after him.
Emmett is survived by his children, Dennis Holst, Bettendorf, Patricia (Bryan) Clark, Davenport, Wendy Holst, Andalusia, Cindy (Terry) Wermuth, Moline, Michael (Tami) Holst, Bettendorf, Julie (Scott) Lange, Maquoketa; 16 Grandchildren and 23 Great Grandchildren with another Great Grandson due this Spring. His step children Keith Cady and Candy (Randy) Gray, Missouri along with several step grandchildren and great grandchildren. His sister Mary (Stan) Fick, Coal Valley, sister-in-law Hazel Holst, Washington. Also, Uncle Buzz is survived by his beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife Bev, brothers Carl & Raymond; sister-in-law, Barb and nephew Victor.
