Elsie Joan Garstang

Elsie Joan Garstang, 89, of Grayson, Georgia, formally of Davenport, Iowa, went to be with her Savior on Sunday, June 11, 2023. The family will receive guests, Saturday, June 24, beginning at 10 am followed by a celebration of life at 12pm at Runge Mortuary. She will be laid to rest in Davenport Memorial Park.

Elsie was born on July 3, 1933, in Davenport to Andrew and Elsie (Steffen) Jorgensen. She was married to Richard L. Garstang on April 10, 1954, in Davenport. He preceded her in death in 2000. She worked at AT&T in Directory Assistance for 27 years retiring in 1990.

Elsie loved her family well and enjoyed time spent with them and dear friends. Giving was her love language. She always gave generously whenever a need was brought to her attention. She enjoyed crafting especially quilting and making memory books for her family. She loved Mickey Mouse and going to Disney World, which she and Dick did in the winter for many years.

Celebrating her life are her children: Penny (Rick) Dresselhaus, Todd (Amy) Garstang, and Tim (Dixie) Garstang. Grandchildren: Dawn (Matthew) Copeland, Stacey (Ryan) Sheckler, Bridget (Justin) Hedgecock, Dan Dresselhaus, Michael (Lacey) Dresselhaus, and Claire (Dustin) Stichter. Great-grandchildren: Andy (Madison), Olivia (Spencer), Ella, Brett, Jonah, Jacob, Ethan, Owen, Emily, Evan, Avery, Adam, Elsie, Lottie, and a baby girl due November 2023. Siblings: Andrew (Sandy) Jorgensen, Shirley (Richard) Brown, Nancy Stock, Mary (Larry) Baker, and Larry (Linda) Jorgensen along with many nephews and nieces.

In addition to her husband, those preceding her in death include parents, brother and sister-in-law, John and Arlene Jorgensen, brother-in-law, Eric Stock, and sister-in-law, Margaret Bettendorf.

The family would like to thank Benton House of Grayson and Inspire Hospice for their special care of Elsie. Memorials may be made to your favorite charity.
