Elmer R. Daily, 84, of Davenport, passed away Monday, March 7, 2016 at Genesis East Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 11, 2016 at 12:00 pm in The Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be held from 4:30 -7 PM, Thursday, March 10, 2016 at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to his family. Elmer, also known as “White Knight”, was born December 7, 1931 in Davenport; the loving son of Elmer and Helen (Fee) Daily. He was united in marriage to Nola “Marie” Matthews on April 3, 1954 in Jefferson, IN; she preceded him in death on February 11, 2011.
He served in the Army in the 3rd Armored Division in Ft Knox, KY during the Korean War, where he was a tank instructor. He worked as a lather and carpenter for over 60 years, retiring from Builders Sales and Service, Moline.
Some of his favorite pastimes included watching horse and dog races along with the Cubs and the Yankees baseball games. His memberships included the Blue Grass American Legion, Davenport Moose Lodge #28, Eagles and Elks Lodges and the Carpenters Local Union #4.
Those left to honor his memory include his children: Terry (James) Grobstick; Mary (Jay) Pewe; Richard (Lisa) Daily; Veronica (Ken) Bales and Jennifer (James) Garnica, grandchildren: McKenzie, Mandy (Nate), Matthew, Jaqueline, Madison, Kyle, Erin, Megan, Michelle (Dustin), Missy, Richie, Mitchell, Kayla and Tiffany; great-grandchildren Beau, Olivia, Jenna, Jase, Gaven, and one on the way; sisters: Anna Thompson, Ethel Daily, Margaret Osborn, Lela Spratt; Carol (Tom) Pickett and Jinx (Doug) Allen; brothers: Steven (Anna) Daily and James Daily and sister-in-law Judy Daily. In addition to his parents and beloved wife Marie, Elmer was preceded in death by a son, Eddie and a brother, Harvey.
