Elba was born on July 21, 1934, and grew up around the Milan, Missouri area. This was mostly a farming community, but Elba loved cars. He was very mechanical and loved to tell stories about his young driving days and what he did to keep those cars running. This talent served him well throughout his life.
At 18, he moved to the Quad City area and married Rosane Taylor, also of Missouri. On March 14, they would have celebrated 70 years of marriage.
When he was 28, he made his profession of faith to Jesus Christ and never faltered in that faith. He served many years as a deacon, taught Sunday school, and helped where there was a need. He was a charter member at New Life Baptist Church where it was his honor to build the alter table that is still used today.
Elba worked 34 years at Khors Cold Storage. After retirement, Elba and Rosane turned a hobby into a business. “El Rose Unique Wood Creations” was formed. For many years they worked side by side handcrafting each piece. For many years they traveled to craft shows and farmer’s markets, making new friends along the way.
More than his love of cars and woodworking, was his love for Rosane and their family. God and family came first and many blessings followed.
Elba is survived by his wife, Rosane; son, Steve (Charlotte); daughter, Patt (Bob Neese); grandchildren: Bill Turner, Kim (Erik Eisenbacher), Lindsay (Beau Hines), Brad (Kelli Neese); and great-grandchildren: Karissa, Kayzlee, Ryker, Jaxon, and Kinzley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elba and Evea, and brother, Bill.
Elba’s easygoing attitude and humor will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends. Join us for a celebration of life service at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, at New Life Baptist Church, 7780 W. Locust St., Davenport.
