Ed grew up in Davenport, IA, where he married Ann Paulsen (aka Dorothy Ann) on September 8, 1957. They had four wonderful children, Dale, Carol Gallager (Steve), Dean, and Leslie Schaefer; two grandchildren, Ross Gallager (Alisha) and Alexis Callahan (Andrew); and two great grandkids, Abigail and Seth; which he loved very much and was always there to lend a hand in any way he could.
Ed was employed for 35 years by the U.S. Army Armament command (AMCCOM) retiring in 1992 as the Director of Materiel Management.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He traveled around the world to Africa, New Zealan, Mexico, Brazil, Canada, and most of the U.S. states. Ed was a talented taxidermist and operated “Schaefer’s Creations from Nature” for over 40 yrs., mounting trophies for hunters and fishermen. He had over 100 trophies in his collection. He was also an artist and enjoyed painting pictures of wildlife up to the very end.
Ed has reached the hearts of many and he will be missed deeply by all of us. Ed has gone fishing to the big lake in the sky.
