Douglas L. Steen, 75 of Princeton, IA., passed away on Friday, June 2, 2017 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House. Visitation will be from 5-8 P.M. on Tuesday, June 6. Funeral services will be at 10 A.M. on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 in The Runge Mortuary Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Princeton Volunteer Fire Department or the Princeton Community Center. Burial will be in the Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Douglas was born on December 27, 1941 in Davenport, a son of James LeRoy and Okylle (Collins) Steen. Upon graduation, Douglas proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1959-1963. Douglas then married Lonna Woods in 1965 and they later divorced. After the Marine Corps, Douglas worked at JI Case for over 20 years and retired in 1987. He was also proud of his co-ownership of Kernans Restaurant in Princeton, IA from 1988-2000. After retirement he worked at Keith and Deb’s Printshop in Princeton for a couple of years while also being the primary caregiver of his mother. He was a member of the Quarter Horse Club and raised pure bred cocker spaniels. Douglas was an avid fisherman and hunter who also loved golf and camping. Douglas also served on the Princeton City Council and the Zoning Committee as well as being a volunteer for the Princeton Fire Department. Those left to honor his memory include his brother: Donald L. Steen. Nieces: Kathy (Roger) Allmond and Michelle (Maurice) Veurink. Nephews: Mark (Pamela) Spickermann and Nathan Steen. Great-Nephews: Shane Spickermann, Aaron (Jenae) Spickermann, Garrett (Andrea) Veurink, and Dalton Veurink. Great-Niece: Hailey Veurink, and Great Great-Nephew Kai Warren Spickermann.
