Dorothy Elizabeth Haes was born in Laverne, Iowa on April 28, 1928. At the age of three she, her brother and her sister were adopted by Elmer and Elizabeth Haes. Dorothy grew up on a farm west of Garner, Iowa. On August 4, 1946 she married Gaylan Haes. Dorothy could accomplish anything she set her mind to do! She loved working outside on the farmstead. She always loved flowers and had a natural green thumb. Dorothy loved to cook. She could always be counted on to bake “rollers” and make gravy for holiday meals. Dorothy was an avid bowler. As an adult, Dorothy took painting classes. Her paintings now adorn the walls of her daughter and grandchildren. In 1988, she and Gaylan moved to Davenport to live closer to their daughter. Dorothy devoted many volunteer hours to Genesis Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Ronda (Eldon) Bird, Bettendorf, granddaughter, Kimberly (Marty) Hagge, Dallas, TX, great-granddaughters, Taylor Dalecky, Cedar Rapids, Lauren Dalecky, Paris, France, and Sydney (Ray) Claywell, Solon.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years.
Thank you to everyone who cared for Dorothy at Heartland HCC (especially Jeff who always brightened her day!) and Heartland Hospice. And a special thank you to the pastors at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Craig and Lindy Hellyer, Cathy Owen, and Trish Thobe.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport, or to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
