Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 21, in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will begin one hour prior at the mortuary. She will be laid to rest in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Memorials may be made to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House or King’s Harvest Pet Rescue. Doris was born on August 19, 1925, to John Quincy and Rose (Bailey) Adams in Blakesburg, IA. She married Dale A. Terhune on November 1, 1946, in Ottumwa, IA.
Doris attended Davis County schools, graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1943, and then attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, IA. She taught in Davis County schools before marriage and moving to Waterloo, IA. Doris was a homemaker for several years, later working as a substitute teacher in the Davenport community schools. She also worked at Blackhawk Films, U.S. Post Office and retired from HQ, AMCCOM in 1993.
After retirement, she was a volunteer in the “Listen to Me Read” program, a member of the American Legion Auxilliary, CASI, NARFE, Golden Anniversary Club, Putnam Museum & Guild, numerous card playing organizations, and Grace United Methodist Church.
Doris enjoyed watching Iowa Hawkeye basketball and the Chicago Cubs. She also liked playing euchre, dice, shopping, walking at the mall, and going to the casino.
She is survived by her children, Deb (Mike) Yeager, Davenport, IA, Dick, Davenport, IA, and Doug (Cindy), Port Byron, IL; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; parents; sisters, Betty Swaim and Norma Heckart; and brother, Bob Adams.
