

Funeral services for Doris M. Gardner, 93, of Davenport, formerly a long time resident of Ft. Dodge, IA, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Holy Family Church in Davenport. Interment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Livermore, IA. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary in Davenport. Mrs. Gardner passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2011 at Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport. Doris Mary McKenna was born in Hardy, IA on August 13, 1917, the daughter of Edward and Ida (Baessler) McKenna. She attended school in Livermore, IA and graduated in 1938 from the Iowa Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls. She taught in a one-room schoolhouse in the Livermore area before moving to Fort Dodge. She later worked at JC Penney Co. in downtown Fort Dodge. On October 20, 1948 she married Vincent B. Gardner. Vince preceded her in death in 1997. She worked at Fort Dodge Sr. High Kitchen from the mid-1970’s to the mid-1980’s. In 1999, Doris moved to Davenport to be closer to her family. She enjoyed traveling, visiting with her children and grandchildren, and was a proud Dallas Clark fan from Livermore. She is survived by a Daughter: Margaret (Frank) Baker of Davenport; two Sons: Kevin (Irene) Gardner of Anchorage, AK, Matt (Janet) of Medina, OH; seven Grandchildren: T.J. (Amy) Magennis of Delano, MN, Megan (Travis) Tarpein of Bettendorf, IA, Molly Magennis of Davenport, Amanda Gardner of Brooklyn, NY, Ryan Gardner of Anchorage, AK, Katie Gardner of Medina, OH, Nick Gardner of Medina, OH; five Great-grandsons: Justin and Jack Magennis of Delano, MN, Vince and Jett Tarpein of Bettendorf, IA, Rocco Magennis of Davenport; a Sister: Jeanne Jamieson of Clear Lake, IA; a Brother: Donald (Eleanor) McKenna of Spokane, WA; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers: Francis, Raymond, Robert, and Charles. Memorials may be directed to Holy Family Church, Davenport.
