

Donald E. Hein, 87, and his wife Holly E. Hein, 85, of Davenport passed away at their residence surrounded by their family on Tuesday, November 24th and December 5th, respectively. Per their wishes, there will be no services. A private family inurnment will be at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Cunnick-Collins Mortuary and Cremation Service is assisting their family with their arrangements.Donald Edward Hein was born on February 28, 1928 in Rock Island, IL, the son of Louis and Frieda (Fahrenkrug) Hein. Holly Ellen Glidewell was born on September 13, 1930 in Essex, IA, the daughter of Henry and Ruth (Kratzenberger) Glidewell. Following his high school graduation, Donald served in the United States Navy. On March 3, 1951, Donald and Holly were united in marriage in Davenport. During their 64 years of marriage, they raised four wonderful children and celebrated the addition of 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Donald worked as a millwright at Oscar Mayer until his retirement in 1984 with 38 years. He loved playing sports and was the assistant coach for his son’s baseball teams plus an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.Holly participated in Davenport’s PTA serving as President for many years in the grade schools. She volunteered as the coordinator of the Shut-In Service at the Davenport Public Library for 25 years with she and her husband deliverers as well.Together they both loved playing cards with family and friends as well as board games, puzzles, and listening/singing music with their children and grandchildren. They looked forward to the once a month Oscar Mayer retirement lunches.A gathering to celebrate their life will be held at Duck Creek Lodge in Davenport on Saturday, December 12th at 4:00pm. They are survived by their four children: Katheryn Donley of San Antonio, TX, Patricia Roesger and Deborah (Allan) Freund of Davenport, John Hein (Lori) of Howard, WI; Holly’s siblings: John (Mary) Glidewell of Waco, TX, Jessica Paterson of Oklahoma City, OK; 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. In addition to their parents, they were preceded in death by Donald’s siblings: Lois (Norman) Pasvogel, Dorothy (Donald) Marshall, Glen (Phyllis) Hein, and Louis (Dorothy) Hein; and Holly’s sister: Katherine Stubbs.
