Donald “Don” Hackett, 76, of LeClaire, Iowa; passed away Friday, March 6, 2020. Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at 10am at Weerts Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 from 4-7pm at Weerts Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery following the funeral service. Memorials in Don’s name may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of LeClaire Youth Program or to the Davenport Fire Department Fire Safety Program.
Don was born August 26, 1943 to Floyd and Lillian Hackett in Burwell, Nebraska. Following High School, Don joined the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War, earning a Purple Heart for his service. On July 7, 1984, Don was united in marriage to Sally Willems. Don was a Lieutenant with the Davenport Fire Department; he later went on to be the Fire Marshall and Arson Investigator. He retired from the Davenport Fire Department after 34 years of service. Don was instrumental in obtaining grants to purchase the first Fire Safety house and Billy the fire truck robot. He was also very active with the First Presbyterian Church of LeClaire. Don was a big sports fan and loved watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs.
Those left to honor his memory is his wife of 35 years, Sally; children: Brad (Tammy) Hackett, Ron (Lorrie) Willems, and Lori (Don) Smith; grandchildren: Haley, Taylor, Nick, Callie, Jack, Holly, and Tyler; brothers Gary (Maralee) Martin and Steve Kuehl; and sisters Susie Kuehl and Anne (Ty) Cutkomp. He was preceded in death by his parents.
