Visitation will be held on Friday, October 4, from 10:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the Runge Mortuary. He will be laid to rest in Davenport Memorial Park with a private service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family and will be dispersed to several charities.
Donald was born on June 3, 1952, the son of John and Dorothy (Allen) Gano in Davenport, IA. He graduated from West High School in 1970 and Central College in Pella, IA in 1974. Donald joined the Davenport Police Department in 1976 and served until retiring in 2007 as a Lieutenant. He then went on to teach Criminal Justice at Blackhawk Community College, Scott Community College, and St. Ambrose University.
Donald was an avid reader and history buff. He was especially interested in battlefields. He enjoyed theater, attending plays with his daughter, and loved spending time with his grandsons. He was also a fan of UCONN college basketball and Hawkeye college football.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Casey (Daniel) Trout of Moline, IL; mother of his child, Carol Loomis; stepson, Chadwick Miller; grandsons, Adam and Ian Trout; siblings, Kathy (Tom) Monroe of Davenport, IA, and Jean (Ben) Bolen of Tama, IA, and William (Ashley) Trout; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his beloved dog, Sherman.
