Funeral services for Donald W. Bowker, 85, of Davenport, will be 11:00 am on Wednesday at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport. Burial will follow at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, with military rites conducted by the American Legion #26. Family will greet friends on Wednesday from 9:30 am to service time at the Mortuary. Donald passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at his home in Davenport.Donald Wallace Bowker was born on September 25, 1926 in Davenport, the son of Henry and Cora (Coffelt) Bowker. He married Rose Mary Willard on December 2, 1950 in Moline, IL. She preceded him in death on June 28, 1991. He worked in Shipping and Receiving at Eagle Signal for 43 years. He retired in 1992. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict.Donald was a member of the V.F.W. 828, American Legion #26 the American Turners, Davenport and Bettendorf Bowling Association, and 40-8. Survivors include his daughters; Cyndi (Aaron Reza) Holst, Cheryl (Eric McIllece) Johnson, both of Davenport, sons; Ray (Carla) Bowker of Moline, Mike (Gloria) Bowker of Davenport, 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great great- grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Rose Mary, sons; Donnie and Gary, 9 brothers and sisters and his companion of 14 years, Josie, who passed away in February.Memorials may be made to The ALS Association Development Department 852 Middle Road # 402 Bettendorf, Iowa 52722The family would like to express a special note of thanks to his grandson Jeramy for the kindness and special care given to his grandfather during his recent illness.
