Derek George, 50, passed away on October 20, 2023, in Mobile, AL. He was born on December 4, 1972, in Davenport, Iowa to David and Sandra (Westerhof) George. A Memorial visitation to celebrate Derek’s life will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at Weerts Funeral Home. Derek’s life was a remarkable journey filled with exciting adventures, as he traveled the country, leaving his mark as a talented chef. He graduated from the prestigious Culinary Institute of America, in Hyde Park, New York, where he honed his culinary skills and ignited his passion for the art of cooking. Throughout his career, he showcased his expertise in various kitchens, earning a reputation for his exceptional skills.
In the culinary, world he was known to be tough and demanding, always striving for excellence. Yet, outside the kitchen Derek’s adventurous spirit shone brightly. Embracing the opportunities to explore new places, cultures, and cuisines, making every journey memorable. To those who knew him best, he was a gentle and caring soul, extending kindness to those around him, making him beloved by those close.
In addition to his culinary achievements, Derek was a devoted and beloved father to his children, Jackson, Emerson, and Keaton. He cherished every moment with them and leaves behind cherished memories.
He is survived by his children, Jackson, Emerson, and Keaton. He also leaves behind his brother David George; and a host of friends and extended family who will forever hold him in their hearts.
Derek’s memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed and remembered, both through his culinary creations and as a devoted father.
