Dennis “Denny” Kresin, 71, of Muscatine, IA, passed away unexpectedly at the University of Iowa Medical Center on May 18, 2024. In remembrance of Denny, please dress casually for his funeral service at 4 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2024 at Weerts Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. and conclude at the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Living Lands and Waters or the Davenport Fire Department Honor Guard.
Denny was born on October 12, 1952 in Moline, IL to parents Frances (Simpson) and Richard Kresin. Denny attended Williams Junior High where he excelled in track; winning the title of city champion for the half mile in 9th grade. He then attended West High School where he also excelled in track as a member of the state championship mile team. Denny traveled some out west, came home and worked at French and Hecht in Walcott, IA. From there he joined the Davenport Fire Department, where he also had a part time position at Oscar Mayer for several years. He retired from the DFD as a District Chief 15 years ago.
When he wasn’t working, Denny could mostly be found outdoors. In fact, it was when he was out in Vander Veer Park, that he happened to meet his future wife, Julie Smith. They got married on March 30, 1984 in Davenport and just recently celebrated their 40th anniversary. Denny’s happy place was out hunting, fishing, boating, camping, or some combination of those activities. He especially enjoyed being out on the river with those he loved or up at “the island” on the Wapsi. In his retirement, he had the joy of travelling more with Julie, going down south to Florida in the winters and whipping out the trusty paper map for their roadtrips. His journeys continue on, as does his love.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Julie; children, Jeremy Smith, Libby Sparks, Jamie (Nick) Broline; grandchildren, Carina Smith, Kelsey Smith, Emily Sparks, Kylie Sparks, Bentley Broline, Bailey Broline, and his siblings, Connie (Bob) Campbell, Jimmy Kresin, Scott (Kathy) Kresin, Jay Kresin, and Michelle Kresin.
Denny was preceded in death by his parents.
