Dennis Ralph Haley, 82, of Calamus, IA, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House after a hard-fought battle with acute myeloid leukemia.
As per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded, and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Memorials are to be made to your favorite charity or the Calamus Volunteer Fire Department. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com.
Dennis was born in Bettendorf, IA, the son of Ralph and Marion (Matizak) Haley. After graduating high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving 3 years with the 93 medical evacuation hospital in Junction City, KS. It was there he met his wife of 62 years, Helene “Hally” Schrader, a WAC who also worked at the hospital.
Dennis worked for Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Mount Joy and later owned and operated Haley’s Refrigeration and Heating in Calamus, IA. He enjoyed stamp collecting, sci-fi movies, “old” country music, and gardening, supplying the neighborhood with fresh veggies.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Hally and 2 children, Deb (Tom) Holladay and David (Nancy) Haley of New London, WI. Dennis adored his 4 granddaughters and 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Peg Wells of Bettendorf, IA, and Karen Beedle of Baldwin; brother, Micheal (Nancy) of Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.
