Deborah Jean Houck, 70, of Davenport, Iowa passed away unexpectedly with her husband Duane at her side on June 14, 2023. Her beautiful spirit was enjoyed by many for 70 short years. Her family and friends and the many people who were impacted by her life are deeply saddened by her passing.
Deb was born March 6, 1953 in Appleton, WI the daughter of June (Mauthe) Brain who preceded her in death on March 26, 2020. She married Duane Houck on November 4, 1988 in Bettendorf, IA.
Her life will be celebrated at a service on Friday, June 23rd at 10:00 a.m. at Runge Mortuary with a luncheon to follow at the facility. After the luncheon, for those who wish to attend, a procession will be made to the burial site where she will be laid to rest at Davenport Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com. For your comfort, attendees are welcome to wear casual attire.
Deb was a graduate of St. Ambrose University and the University of Iowa. She retired as a Logistics Specialist at Rock Island Arsenal, Rock Island, IL with the Army Tank & Automotive Command (TACOM). During her time there she received numerous awards and was particularly proud of being honored one year as the National Army Logistics Manager of the Year. Deb and Duane both retired from the Arsenal the same day in May 2011. She enjoyed watching all Chicago Sports teams, especially the Blackhawks, as well as the Green Bay Packers and Iowa Hawkeyes and loved tending to her plants and flowers in her yard.
Deb had a special and loving bond with her two dogs Josie and Lillie. Lillie was adopted into Deb and Duane’s home following the passing of Deb’s mother June. Deb also enjoyed the many cruises she and Duane had taken as well as cruises with members of her family including her mother June, sister Diann, brother Daryll, and friends Casey and Deb’s “Best Bud” Linda. For other entertainment, Deb also enjoyed the “occasional” visit to the local casino.
Deb is survived by her loving husband, Duane Houck, Davenport, IA, brothers David Jury, Dan (Chris) Jury, New London, WI, Daryll Jury, La Crosse, WI, Doug Jury, sister Diann (Dennis) Kroger, Davenport, IA, nephew Austin Kroger, Glendale Heights, IL and niece Kristina Kroger, Chicago, IL, brother-in-law Donald (Alice) Houck, Waynesville, NC, nieces Dacia Harris, Asheville, NC, and Kara (Matt) Cieri, Columbia, SC, sister-in-law Virginia (Alan) Holst, Edina, MN, and lifelong friend Linda Carlson, Moline, IL.
