Memorial services for Debbie Melton (AKA Debbie Cakes), 63 of Davenport will be 4 PM Thursday September 27, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2136 Brady Street, Davenport. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 4-7 PM at Weerts Funeral Home, 3625 Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. Private inurnment will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the family, diabetes association, or the epilepsy foundation.
Debbie passed away, surrounded by her family, on Saturday September 22nd. She was born in 1955 in Davenport, the daughter of Harold and Goldie Kosbau. She married Michael Melton on January 22, 1972. He preceded her in death in 1984.
At an early age Debbie began working at her parents Bon Ton Bakery in Davenport. She transitioned to manager at the former Eagle Foods village shopping Center, Davenport. When Eagles closed, she worked at Hy-Vee E. Kimberly, before retiring.
Debbie was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She enjoyed Saturday night services with her sisters followed with a night out of dinner and or playing cards. Debbie loved to laugh and make others laugh. Her laugh was very infectious. She enjoyed bowling, going to the casino and was an avid fan of the “Cubs.” Debbie had a heart of gold and loved her girls and grandkids with all her heart. She would do anything she could for them, or anyone else in her life. Debbie says she is very “sorry.”
Survivors include daughters: Christine Anderson, Missy (Tony) Gamelin, and Tammy Herdt; stepdaughter, Tina (Damon) Rosenberger; grandchildren: Zach Anderson, Bryce Melton, Allie Melton, Brandon Gamelin, Justin Sheldon, Chase Melton and Nathan Gamelin; step-grandchildren: Tyler Alvarez, and Sam (Bree) Freeman; a great-granddaughter, Paisley Melton; sisters: Janet (Rick) Mcintyre, Becky (Tim) Clark and Joan Harter; a brother, John (Tauna) Kosbau, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Gary Kosbau.
