DAVENPORT — Dean E. Taylor, 89, of Davenport, passed away Monday, January 25, 2021, at Silvercrest Garner, Davenport. A private family service to celebrate his life will be held at Weerts Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Davenport Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to Genesis Hospice or Silvercrest Garner, Davenport. Dean was born May 4, 1931 in Jones County, IA to John E. Taylor and Loretta Eller. Dean served in the United States Navy. He was united in marriage to Mildred L. Proffitt on Oct. 18, 1952, in Davenport.
Dean attended Davenport High and graduated in 1949. He was in Boy Scouts growing up and became an Eagle Scout as a young adult. Dean was a mail carrier in the Bettendorf area and later became a custodian for the Davenport School District, retiring in 1993. He coached football, swimming and track at Davenport Central High School, along with Special Olympics. Dean was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder. Dean and Mildred were involved with United Marriage Encounter. He was a member of the American Legion Post 26.
Survivors include his daughters, Cynthia (Mark) Meinert and Deborah Taylor; son, Dean (Lori) Taylor Jr.; grandchildren: Sarah (Matt) Hayman, Luke (Gina) Meinert, Thomas (Jess) Taylor, Andrew (Elizabeth) Taylor and Brandon Daley; great-grandchildren, Lauren and Tyler Hayman, Avery Taylor, Kai and Ila Meinert and Theo and Cal Taylor; and one sister, Mary Alice (Harold) Ripple.
In addition to his parents, Dean was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred, and a sister, Wilma.
