David G. Webb, 73 of Davenport, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at his home with his beloved family by his side. There will be a visitation on Saturday, October 26, 2024 from 10am – 2pm at Weerts Funeral Home; funeral service to follow at 2pm.
David was born on January 4, 1951 to William and Rebecca Webb in Hyer, West Virginia. A few years later the family moved to Detroit for a better life. David’s love of hockey began at an early age when he built an ice skating rink in his backyard every year for family and friends. He attended Redford High School in Detroit, Michigan. Thereafter, he managed Zukens Rib Shack and acquired his love of barbeque. The Army drafted David in 1971 but he joined the Navy. David served from 1971 - 1975; he was stationed on the USS Canisteo A0-99 out of Norfolk, Virginia. Following his service, David’s friends invited him to Davenport, Iowa. He began his career as a forklift operator at the Rock Island Arsenal. Soon after, David met the love of his life at Bowlmor. David was united in marriage to Perian Gittings on April 8, 1978. As a leader and mentor to many, David continued to work his way up the ranks at the Rock Island Arsenal. He served as President of the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers Union and retired in 2019 as a Labor Relations Specialist. David was active in his community and loved sharing interests with his boys Garrett and Gavin. He was an Assistant Boy Scout Leader, a coordinator for the Dad’s Club Soccer referees, an Off Ice Official for the Quad City Mallards, and he ran the scoreboard for the Quad City Steam Wheelers. David was the grill master of the Big Green Egg, Weber Grill, and the Traeger. He would even barbeque in the dead of winter. David perfected his craft and won Grand Champion of the Webb Rib Fest. He was a huge sports enthusiast and supported the University of Michigan Wolverines as well as the Detroit Tigers, Lions, and Red Wings.
David was beloved, and would often remind you that nothing was too good for him. Those left to honor his memory are his wife of 46 years, Perian; son Gavin; father-in-law Perry Gittings; siblings Terry (Linda) Webb, Jan Webb, Bruce (Shari) Webb; sisters-in-law Paralee (Ken) Thiefault, Patti (Jack) Stender, and Beth Webb. He also cherished many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and a great great nephew. David had a deep love for his chosen family which includes Jessica Swearingen, many close friends, and precious little ones.
He is preceded in death by his son Garrett Webb, brother Chuck Webb, and his parents William and Rebecca.
