David Lee Itken

David “Dave” L. Itken, 71, passed away surrounded by his family on July 26, 2023 at UnityPoint Medical Center in Rock Island, IL. Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Online, condolences and fond memories may be expressed at www.weertsfh.com

Dave was born in Sterling, IL on August 20, 1951 to parents Bernice (Dettman) and Lester Itken. After high school, he went on to obtain his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bradley University. Dave took great pride in his engineering career, after working at different companies, Dave began working for Alcoa in 1997, where he was a Senior Mechanical Engineer for over 25 years.

Dave was united in marriage on April 25, 1975 to Barbara “Barb” L. Shipma in Fulton, IL. Dave and Barb welcomed their son, Daniel in 1986.

Dave enjoyed traveling with his family - especially their stays at the Grand Floridian Resort at Walt Disney World - working on projects at Alcoa, spending time with his grandchildren and meeting up with friends at Harlan’s Restaurant.

Dave was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and all around good person. Dave never missed any of his son's activities or his grandchildren's band concerts or dance recitals. He was their biggest fan.

The best way to describe Dave is this, “There are some who bring a light so great to the world, that even after they are gone the light remains”.

Those left to carry on Dave’s memory include his beloved wife, Barb; son, Daniel (Michelle) Itken; grandchildren, Jonathan and Super Kate Itken. Dave also leaves behind his best fur child Molly.
