A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, August 5, 2019 at 12 pm in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be Monday from 10am until the service time. She will be laid to rest in Trinity Cemetery, New London, IA. In lieu of memorials, the family requests flowers, one of her greatest passions. Online condolences may be left at www.rungemortuary.com
She was born November 29, 1930 in Mediapolis, IA; the beloved daughter of Oscar and Mable Mae (Vincent) Schweitzer. She was joined in marriage to Leo Lee Davis on May 18, 1950 in Burlington, IA; he preceded her in death in 2002.
She worked as a nurse’s aide for Good Samaritan and retired from the Arsenal after 15 years of faithful service. Her hobbies included puzzles, growing flowers, reading, country western music, eating anything with apples in it and strawberry ice cream. She was a big fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Iowa Hawkeyes especially their football and basketball teams. Darlene dearly loved her family and her two dogs, Dobie and Tara. Darlene also enjoyed spending time with her friend, Linda and her ladies on their “girls day out” seeing the sights.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Sharon Woodside; Wayne (Cheryl) Davis and Billy (Dawn) Davis; 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Her parents, infant son, Charles Davis and a brother, Leonard Schweitzer preceded her in death.
